Summer 2017 Law Internship Program

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS! An internship program has been established by the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law (OGERL) Section of the State Bar of Texas to provide law students with a demonstrated interest in oil, gas and energy resources law the opportunity to obtain practical experience and exposure to the oil, gas and energy sector. Under this Program, the OGERL Section will sponsor a summer internship at the following: (1) the Public Utility Commission of Texas; (2) the Texas General Land Office; (3) the Railroad Commission of Texas; (4) the University Lands System; and (5) the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). The internships will last six weeks during the summer of 2014. A stipend of $5,000 will be paid to the selected candidates by the Section. The aforementioned agencies and ERCOT will make the final hiring decisions, and such decisions may be subject to additional background checks or requests to be made by the agencies and/or ERCOT.

Applications are due on or before April 30, 2017. All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on this date to be considered.

(1) OGERL Internship Application with affidavit certifying enrollment during the current school year;

(2) an unofficial copy of your transcript; and

(3) Intern Publicity Release and Liability Waiver Form (properly executed and witnessed).

Eligibility Requirements:

In order to be eligible for selection, an applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Law students interested in participating in this Program must be currently enrolled at

an accredited law school. Preference will be given to law students attending one of the

nine accredited Texas law schools or Texas residents. The applicant must submit

verification of enrollment during the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants who are

Texas residents attending a non-Texas law school may be requested to show proof of

residency. A release form authorizing the Section to obtain a current law school

transcript must be signed and attached.

  1. The applicant must provide legal proof of authorization to work in the United States.
  1. The applicant must be in the top 50% of his or her class.
  1. Applicants must not have been or currently be subject to any disciplinary action by

any institution or entity, including, but not limited to, any education or law enforcement
