Summer NAPE 2015

As a student in the McCombs School of Business’ Energy Management Program (EMP) I have become very interested in a career within the oil and gas industry. Because of my excitement for the industry I actively pursue each opportunity provided to me to learn more. One of the most interesting and eye- opening experiences thus far was attending NAPE in August 2015 with several of my EMP peers. NAPE was launched by the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) in 1993 with one purpose in mind: To create a venue that brings prospects and purchasers together. NAPE serves the upstream oil and gas industry by offering the world’s largest, most successful gatherings of decision makers, and hosting events with the primary purpose of putting decision makers and investors in touch with each other. For the upstream oil and gas industry, NAPE is where deals happen. Twice a year NAPE provides people in the oil and gas business this wonderful opportunity to network and build relationships.

This August, thanks to the McCombs Energy Management Program, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend my first ever Summer NAPE. Every expectation I had preceding NAPE was exceeded. As the only students there, my peers and I were provided an awesome opportunity to meet people and network with a multitude of companies and corporations. I personally made many great connections with many people from simple friendly conversation. I am confident that the relationships I created at NAPE will continue to grow and benefit me greatly in the future.

As a result of my experience at NAPE in August 2015, I cannot wait to attend Winter NAPE in February 2016. The learning experience it provided outside of the classroom was a great way to enhance my coursework in EMP. The interest in and kindness shown to us as well as the genuine effort made by others to meet us and teach us about their personal experiences is my favorite take away from NAPE. It was an unforgettable experience and will motivate my return in future years. I can’t thank the McCombs Energy Management Program enough for the opportunity to go.
